| East Izu Region (Atami, Atagawa,
Inatori) Atsuko Inaba's opinion |
 |
Surrounded by the wide expanse
of the Pacific Ocean, the coast of East Izu has springs gushing
with hot water. The source of this hot water reaches temperatures
of over 100 degrees Celsius and is the reason why the place
names Atami ("hot sea") and Atagawa ("hot river")
exist. Seeing the sun rising above the sea in which Izu's seven
islands are interspersed is sure to make you feel as if you
are bursting with joy! The flowers of the four seasons are represented
in this region: peach flowers at Inatori that are used as decorations
for hina dolls: cherry blossoms, carnations, roses and irises
at Kawazu; camellia bushes at Okawa; plum blossoms, cherry blossoms
at Atami; hamayu and tsuwabuchi flowers, and herbs at Atakawa.
The pleasantly smelling fragrance of mandarin oranges wafts
through the air during the month of May. Why not come along
and envelop yourself in a fragrance of flowers while enjoying
a spectacular view from an outdoor hot spring? |

Yukiko Yamamoto |

Mountains covered in greenery,
crystal clear water -- these are some of the things that West
Izu has to offer, plus what is probably the best view of Mt.
Fuji in all of Japan. The various Shinto shrines and Buddhist
temples offer the visitor a chance to experience history and
art.
The port towns are full of things to see, and there are many
places with spectacular views. Becoming immersed in an atmosphere
that surpasses time is guaranteed, as are scenes that remain
imprinted on your mind forever. There are few places where one
can experience this kind of extravagance.
For many years, West Izu has had many hot spring inns whose
service towards customers is sincere and from the heart. |
The wide range of lodgings -- from
B&B-type minshuku to high-class inns -- have been loved
by customers.
All the inns have cooperated with each other and developed with
time. The inns are waiting to serve you with the highest class
service and fresh food obtained from the mountains in West Izu
and their surrounding waters. |

| South Izu Region (Shimoda, Shimokamo)
Fusako Yoshida |
 |
Located on the southernmost tip
of the Izu peninsula, Shimoda is a historical port city that
has a very foreign atmosphere to it. The vast range of sites
there include historical spots related to the Black Ships, old
temples, art museums and leisure facilities.
The Black Ship Festival, Daffodil Festival and Hydrangea Festival
are popular. As this area is blessed with flowers year round,
and as there are many volunteer guides there to show you around,
you can enjoy your holiday with peace of mind.
As the hot spring village of Shimokamo was established by a
person from Kyoto, it uses place names from Kyoto such as Ichijo
Nijo, Kamikamo and Shimokamo. Truly authentic Japanese lodgings
exist beside the Aonogawa River. |
Particularly popular is the Cherry
Blossom Festival in February and Ise Lobster Festival in the
autumn.
The beautiful coastline, which is overflowing with Japanese-style
nature, and bright sun blow away the inconvenience of a foreign
language. Having a go at the pottery class or one of the trial
classes is sure to make you fall in love with Japan. |

| Kannon
Onsen |
 |
Our onsen was dug
according to Kannon (goddess of mercy) revelation as he appeared
in onefs dream. The source of the onsen is strong alkali simple
spring (alkali pH9.5) that feels as soft as silk. It is good
for the skin and also drinkable. Located in a fold of hills
of Okushimoda, we never reuse the source spring (onsen water
is always 100% fresh!). We are the only hotel that has the source
spring of strong alkali which makes the skin silky and smooth.
Our healthy kaiseki dishes (tea ceremony dishes) use vegetables
from our self-cultivated farm and onsen. |
| |
|
| Ikona |

the "Sukiya" structure (old Japanese style building)
